error during self calibration - PXI-4461

We are running Calibration Executive 3.2.  We are using a PXI chassis and controller and trying to calibrate a PXI-4461 card.

In running the procedure, we received the following error during Self Calibration:

Error 200718 occurred at DAQmx Self Calibration.VI at step self calibrate.

Any guidance in resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Hi Richard,

Can you post your calibration report? That error usually occurs when the 5 V reference is out of range, offset enough that Cal Exec cannot adjust it back to place. If this is the case, then the only way to fix it is to send the board in for repair. If this is not the case, we should be able to find out from the report what is causing this.

Hope this helps,

Andrew S.

Here is the info from the calibration report.  I can email you a PDF of the report and also a screen capture of the error message which states: "Measurement taken during calibration produced an invalid AI gain calibration constant. If performing an external calibration, ensure that the reference voltage passed to the calibration VI or function is correct. Repeat the calibration. If the error persists, conatct National Instruments Technical Support.

One more piece of information on this.  Thinking that the problem may have been the board itself, we installed a second 4461 in the chassis and tried the calibration procedure.  We got the same error which led us to believe that the problem was not in the boards.  Both boards came out of function systems.

This is our first attempt at calibrating a PXI card with Calibration Executive.

Hey Richard,

I'm checking in with the Calibration team on this to see what they have to say. Just as a check, do you know for a fact that the 5 V reference provided to the 4461 is correct? Also, have you verified your external connections are correct and making contact? I know they're pretty basic suggestions, but you'd be suprised how often that causes a problem.

Let me know if you find anything out, and I'll post back once I hear back from the Cal team.

cheers,

Andrew S.

This could be an issue.  We did not have any external connections to the board and were waiting for Cal Exec to prompt us with the required connections as it does with other boards.

What should be connected to the module?

Richard,

Let's take a step back. Does this device pass self calibration in MAX? You can check this by selecting the device in MAX, and selecting "Self Calibrate" in the upper right hand corner of MAX - sometimes it's hidden in a drop down menu. If it doesn't pass that, then it will tell us that the driver is not communicating with the HW properly. If it does, we can start looking into connection issues.

Thanks,

Andrew S

We did try MAX and it fails for the same error.  The 4461 was not in the older version of Cal Exec that we had and we upgraded to 3.2 bacause of this.

Hi Richard,

If this were one card, we would most likley have you send this in for RMA, but seeing as its less likely that you're seeing this on two cards I think we should do more troubleshooting. I would like you to run the attached vi. This reads your internal reverence directly and should give us an idea as to whether your reference is off, or possibly the offset factor is in question. Please try this on both of your 4461's and post the results (Screenshots, saved front panels). I'm looking into seeing how we can calibrate your reference manually, seeing as you have the correct HW but cal exec is failing this first self cal before it can go in and fix the references.

cheers,

Andrew S
