Anis,

You may want to start out by referring to the MXI-3 Troubleshooting document on this website. It contains the most common troubleshooting tips for MXI-3. Here is a link to the docuement:

MXI-3 Troubleshooting Guide

After looking over that document and trying the suggested steps, if you are still experiencing problems please post a reply in this thread. In your post, please list as much detail about what you are doing and what you have already tried so that this forum will be a little better prepared to help you.

hello,

I already read the troubleshooting guide but can't see to what my problem corresponds.
i have a 1000b pxi chassis with 1 video card 1411,
1 multifonction io 6071e, 2 digital io 6508, 1 rs-232 serial 8420 and mxi-3 8335.
the operating system i'm using is windows 98. two weeks ago every thing was working well, and all the cards were detected. but a problem happened and i no longer see the cards in max and in windows peripherals. mxi-3 optimization software works correctly at startup, so it seems there is no problem with the mxi-3 card or with the optic cable.i tried to re-install windows98 but i got the same result.
i really don't know what to do and i urgently need to use the system.
i need help.

thanks,
Anis.

Anis,

Well, I always prefer to try the simplest things first. In this case, that would be fully powering down the chassis and the computer. Then powering on the chassis first, and a few seconds later, powering on the computer. If this doesn't help, then you would probably want to try any or all of the following troubleshooting steps to try and isolate the problem:

- Try removing all but the mxi-3 and one other card from chassis and then try booting up.
- Try placing the pci mxi-3 card in a different slot in the computer.
- Try uninstalling and reinstalling all the NI software on your computer. (better yet, format and reinstall).
- Try the pci mxi-3 card in a different computer.
- Try a different set of mxi-3 cards (if available)
- Check
device manager to see if there are any errors or warnings.

So those are the things that I would try. If after all that you still have no luck connecting you may have a hardware problem and need to RMA (Return Materials Authorization) your hardware.

Please post back with what you find.

hi,

yes, i got it working, thanks a lot. it was the pci slot in the computer. i placed the pci mxi-3 card in a different slot in the computer and it worked, i've been able to see all my ni cards showing up at windows startup, that's wonderful.
thanks a lot.
does that mean that the pci slot where the card was placed is damaged ?

thanks,
Anis.

Anis,

Glad to hear that you got your system working.

As for your question about the PCI slot being damaged, it is hard to say for sure. It could have just been a problem with the way that your computer alloted resources to that slot, for the MXI card. In which case another card may be fine, as it would require different resources. It could be a problem with the computer's BIOS, and a BIOS update might help. Or it could be a problem with the computer. The easiest way to check would probably to try placing a different card in that slot and see if it works correctly. If it doesn't work, it is likely a bad slot, but if it does work, there could be a number of things to explain what might be going wrong.

I hope that helps,
and I hope your application goes smoothly from here on out.
