Signal generation using PXI-5651

Hello,

I'm working with the 5651 CW generator and the 5661 SA.

We are trying to use this hardware to implement a WiMAX testbed, so we are trying to adapt the 5651 to:

  • Generate QPSK and QAM modulations.
  • Transmit a bit rate of at least 1 Mbps.

We understand the limitations of our CW signal generator, but we would like to know if some of the high order modulations or the bit rate can be achieved working with the device drivers or in any other way with the hardware or the software.

Thanks in advance.

Carlos,

Unfortunately, there won't be a way to get either of those modulation schemes solely with the 5651. In order to implement quadrature modulation, you need to be able to independently modulate your in-phase and quadrature-phase waveforms, and there's no way to do that with the 5651. The 5651 can do basic FSK and OOK, but that's it.

If you're looking to test WiMAX, I'd suggest looking at the new 6 GHz platform that was released at NI Week. It utilizes a 565x as a frequency source that can be used with multiple arbs and upconverters to enable MIMO testing, among other things.
