I have a CompactRIO hooked up through ethernet over the network. I am able to see the CompactRIO on the network browser, and it has an IP address. However, when I try starting MAX, I do not see the device there. I also am unable to see the device showing up in LabVIEW when attempting to add a new device to my project. The folder for CompactRIO is not showing up. All I have for options is Real-Time Desktop, Real-Time Industrial Controller, and Real-Time PXI. If I try to specify the target by IP address I am unable to see any of the connected modules.

It sounds like you must have not have installed the NI-RIO driver. Can you confirm that?

I will have to talk with the electronics shop guys. I am a student at UofH doing a senior design project, and dont have admin privileges on the computer being used.

You can check this for yourself by going into Measurement and Automation Explorer and looking into the Software category.

I agree with Adnan that this is most likely an issue with the RIO driver not being installed. However, there are other things which could be causing this issue. Here is a troubleshooting guide that specifically addresses this problem. It may be best to also connect the cRIO directly to the PC through a cross over cable. You can rule out networking issues very quickly through that process.
