Hi,
I am using cRIO 9012 chasis with NI 9870 for serial communication (LabVIEW 8.5.1, NI RIO 2.4, Windows XP). I tried to test the NI 9870 with a serial loopback VI. But I received the following error:
Error 65570 occurred at an unidentified location
Possible reason(s):
CompactRIO: Serial module external power error: An external power error has occurred since the last time the module was accessed. Ensure that power (8–28 VDC) is correctly applied to the VSUP and COM terminals on the front panel of the module.
I have a 16 V power supply for chassis and a separate 16 V for NI 9870. I checked the power on Vsup and Com of NI 9870 and it receives 16 V. It would be helpful if anyone can shed some light on how to resolve this error. Or if there is any method to check whether the NI 9870 module is working or not please let me know.
Thanks

Hi Sajith,
What are you connecting the serial port too? WHat cable are you using?

Hi..
I actually got it to work today. I had connected a loop-back connector to the RS-232 cable but that did not work so I tried the same by connecting it to another port to read the data. It worked! So I think the loop-back connector was faulty.
This was just to test whether the NI 9870 hardware was working or not. My final goal is to interface the SICK LMS 200 through NI 9870 and use the cRIO controller with the LMS.
Is there any other way to check whether the modules on cRIO chassis are working properly or not? Something similar to the Self-Test on MAX for NI DAQ devices.
Thanks
Sajith

Hi Sajith,
Sorry, there is not a self test functionality with the modules.
You will have to test this on your own.
