I have been using a cDAQ 9137 (one NI 9269 voltage output module, two NI 9234 voltage input modules, and two NI 9474 digital modules) without any problems with LabVIEW 2017. Then I decided to upgrade to LabVIEW 2018, and I have not been able to connect to my cDAQ since. I am getting Error -88900, "The specified remote target is unreachable. Ensure that the target is running." Yet the target appears to be running, from both NI MAX and the web configuration (see attached images).

I upgraded the device's firmware and all of the software installed on the target so that it matches the host and have reset and restarted the cDAQ several times. The odd thing (to me, at least) is that everytime I restart the cDAQ, it seems to start out working OK. I am using the voltage outputs to drive speakers, and after restarting the device the speakers generate a tone. Unfortunately, I am at a loss of what to try next; any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, here are a set of steps we can follow that might help us.

 

  1. Check the ReadMe of the drivers to confirm compatibility of the driver version with the hardware/OS/software version
    • The ReadMe can be found by searching on your preferred search engine "<software and version> readme"
  2. It is important to be aware of the Installation Order for Multiple NI Software Products. If LabVIEW is installed after the drivers, LabVIEW will not be able to recognize the drivers to use.
    • If the original configuration was correct and later you upgrade/update LabVIEW, you may need to repair your other software to allow them to be recognized as being installed after the upgrade/update.
  3. Check Windows Device Manager for the devices. If the DAQ device shows up in Windows Device Manager, there are a few steps we can try. Some being, manually updating the device drivers and reseting the configuration data in NI MAX
  4. Check the pins on the modules and cables for any damage or bent pins. This can cause miscommunication if there is not good contact of the points.
  5. Try different cables/ports for the hardware. Sometimes ports or cables can be corrupted or damaged.

Thanks for the reply. The issue has been resolved, but I don't know what the solution was. I had upgraded the DAQmx drivers after upgrading LabVIEW, so I don't think that was the issue. However, in trying to figure this out before receiving your reply, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, and eventually reached a state where LabVIEW was not installed but the installer thought it was (I assume there was a registry problem). I followed these instructions to successfully reinstall everything.
