FlexRIO and VHDL

Greetings. I have started working on a project that would like to utilize the FlexRIO Virtex-5 board. I understand that NI is pushing to utilize LabView as the programming language of this board, however, I am far more comfortable doing FPGA development in VHDL.

Are there options available to do FPGA development using only VHDL?

Howdy rdb0,

You will need to use LabVIEW in some fashion to program the FPGA on board the FlexRIO. LabVIEW offers examples that will configure the hardware and then allow you to use an external IP, but the only way to interact with the FPGA is through the FPGA add-on in LabVIEW.

Below are some documents that talk about this in a little more detail:

Importing External IP Into LabVIEW FPGA

Execute Verilog or VHDL Code on NI LabVIEW FPGA

Let us know if we can help any further.

Cheers,
