MAX can not find RT Desktop target

Please help me find out what's the problem.

I am using a Desktop old Dell Precision 340 as RT target. But the MAX can not find anything.

MAX version is 4.3.0f0

Labview with Real time module is version 8.5.

The PCI network card chip is intel 82557.

I evaluated the RT with evaluating disk, everything is fine except  "Starting up IP stack - failed" & "Unable to configure the primary network device".

I feel really pain to set up the Labview real time system. I wish the MAX offer an option to boot RT target from CD-ROM rather than USB thumb drive. Because rarely old desktop can be booted from USB thumb drive. I wish wish NI offer more PCI network card drivers for the RT system.

I am using a Dell wireless router with 4 LAN ports to build a LAN which connected to internet. The DHCP of the router is on. I check the internet connection of the host PC, it works fine. When both host PC and RT PC connect to the router, the LEDs of the router turn green. Each time when I started use MAX to search Remote system, it turn out nothing, but the LED of the router for RT PC keep flickering.

I also tried to use CAT-5 crossover cable instead of LAN. The host PC shows the network connection is right. But each time when I click the plus sign of the remote system, it turn out nothing except the network disconnected first, then it connected by itself.

The RT PC is booted from hard drive. I checked the screen output, everying is fine except it shows:

Error booting hardrive boot program.

System state: Unconfigured.

We have bought the Labview real time deployment licnese for standard PC's (ETS RTOS) together with Labview real time module 8.5. It is strange than when I try to install the deployment disk, it only shows options for Labview 8.2, 8.0, and 7.1. But when use MAX to create RT uitlity disk, it does have option for version 8.0, 8.2, 8.5. Can you help me check this too.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Chen.

Hi Chen,

Have you verified that the computer meets all of the Requirements of a Deskstop PC as a Target?  You can also test your PC for compatibility by following the steps outlined in this KB

The "unable to configure primary network device" error you are receiving occurs when you cannot obtain a DHCP address.  I would first recommend reformatting your target PC.  MAX does have the option to boot from a disk as opposed to a thumb drive.  If you select RT Disk Utilities, the third section has options for desktop PC disks.  Take a look at the document on Using Desktop PCs with LabVIEW RT for specifics on formatting, configuring, booting, and installing software on the target.

I have the same problem of Chen. I cannot connecto to the target (in my case a Siemens Rack PC). I consulted the documentation quoted but with no success (by the way... the KB quoted is unreachable).

Now I cannot even generate a USB boot key.

My complaint is also more general: why NI products never work as declared (and frequently never work at all, when one wants to do real applications and not simple toy demos)?

Thank you.
