Virtual Machine with LV+RT+FPGA installed for learning

Hello,

I would like to learn (more) the NI cRIO platform (Realtime and FPGA) without bying it.

Is there a possibility to connect to (e.g.) a Virtual Machine which has installed LabView with RT and FPGA modules, to make tests, program a simulated or real cRIO / myRIO or similar?

@NI: This would be a super service from your side !!! We would appreciate !  😉

Or is there anywhere I can rent a myRIO cheaply? Or a sbRIO or a cRIO?

(in this case I could ask NI for extending Realtime and FPGA Module evaluation)

Thank you for any hint

BR

I have found something for the second option:

https://www.electrorent.com/de/search

Still interested in first option

There aren't really any options for simulating the FPGA and Real Time together.

You can run FPGA simulations in the development environment in isolation though. You just can't really get real-time code talking to a simulated FPGA.

For Real-Time there are a few guides out there for setting up a virtual machine. These aren't officially supported by NI but should be good for testing and learning. This is probably one of the more complete guides: https://readthedocs.web.cern.ch/display/MTA/%5BNILRT%5D+Installing+NI+Linux+RT+on+Virtual+Box

But there is also a video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s15gM5b635M

Much of the detail and the guides have come from the discussion on this idea: https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Real-Time-Idea-Exchange/Provide-a-Virtual-Machine-VM-in-which-to-ru...

I hope that helps to get you started!

Where can I buy the RIO Evaluation Kit? Is it still possible?

What are you looking to 'evaluate' in particular?

have you tried ebay?  there is almost always some older NI hardware that you can get for a good price.
