compactrio9104 not showing up in max with ni-rio3.1 and real time installed

I had a workign system which includeded a crio.

I  had to reformat and now have labview 8.6 and vista 64.

I am now having trouble with the crio module not showing up

I have NI RIO 3.1 installed as well as the real time module 8.6 from NI.

Yet, the CRIO 9014 is not showing up in max.

What is crazy is that i can open up my old VIs from the old system, which use the crio, and they run.

I need the module to show up so I can make a project and then build an exe.

I have met compability

ftp.ni.com/pub/devzone/tut/crio_software_versions.htm

I dont see what Im missing here.

so the crio and comptuer are on the same subnet.

if i try to add the crio manually

5. Finding and Adding a Device on a Remote Subnet
If the IP address of the cRIO controller is on a remote subnet MAX may not discover the device and it will need to be manually added.  To manually add the controller in MAX do the following steps.
1. Right Click Remote Systems in MAX.
2. Click Create New> Remote Device ( not on Local subnet )
3. Enter the IP address
4. Click Finish

This is also a useful trick for attempting to add Real-Time devices were the IP address is known but it was not discovered in MAX.

I get the following error

"the device at this address is not supported"

so if i run the installed ni rio software "RIO device setup"

It finds the device once, but this does not allow me to connect in max or anywhere else

In addtion, if i run rio device setup again, it then fails to connect again until i reboot the power on the rio.

Im thinking it has to be some kind of driver failure that is not releasing resources after its closed.

Remeber the CRIO runs fine with all old VIs, i just cant make a project.

is this normal for when you are installing the NI RIO 2.3.1?

I went and intalled labview 8.5 with its realtime version.

Still no luck getting the crio 9014 to show up in max.

and I did try to reinstall NI rio 2.3.1 and 2.3 afterwards with no luck.

There goes an entire day of work.

It honestly just seems that hardware never works in NI and there is some obscure fix.

It had this working already on the same comptuer before i had to reformat due to NI not workign correctly.

I can still run the old VIs, but i cant make a new project which i need to distribute

talked to support via phone today

it turns out the latest drivers are not offered online.

if you search for the crio 9014 from support -> drivers from this pae.

https://www.ni.com/en/support.html

the highest version you get is 2.3.1 as per the following.

but if you search from this randomly named page, you can find 3.1.1

https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-rio--legacy-.html#326635

The 3.1.1 worked first shot to connect in max.

I lost 3 days of work due to this  😞 ...

Support person said he would update the proper drivfe pages for alll crios..
