Traditional DAQ and NI-5401 Signal Generator

Solved!
Go to solution

We have an older system using an NI-5401 Signal Generator (S/N 183962E-40) which is running with FGen 1.5.1 and NI-DAQ 7.1

We have just purchased another NI-5401 (S/N 192888A-01) to setup a second system.  However it doesn't work with the software.  The software uses traditional DAQ. If i look in MAX, the NI-5401 on the new system shows up only under the DAQmx instruments.   On the old system the NI-5401 is available as traditional DAQ.

If i install an older version of FGen (2.0 is the oldest i can find) and NI-DAQ 7.1 then the PC doesn't find a driver for the new NI-5401 at all.

What versions of FGen and NI-DAQ do i need to install to make this work?

Regards,

Keven.

Hi Kevin,

I believe I can help shed some light on this problem.  The part number that you gave for your new card is a NI-5402 which is a DAQmx device and while it is still a arbitrary function generator it is fundamentally different from the NI-5401.  You may find this KB useful.

Thank you,

Thank you! - that explains exactly what's going on.  There are no obvious markings on the new card to indicate it was a 5402 - but i had been told it was the same type as the old card.
