I see nothing stating you can't, so I think: A) True

This article says similar things aren't recommended because the main block diagram pauses until the custom probe is finished (4th bullet point). http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361H-01/lvhowto/cavtsrcmdcstprbs/

I would also say TRUE, but not recommended.
