Rio not communicating

Our Rio is accepting no communication whatsoever, neither the usb-b port nor the Ethernet port are working. The Ethernet port constantly has the two data lights on even without an Ethernet cord plugged in. The status light is giving the 3 blink pattern but using the reset button isn’t doing anything and we can’t get connected to the Rio to reimage it. What should we do?

Hi MarcyFRC8374,

I'm Matthew with NI. Thanks for posting on the forums.

Which model is this? (the original -> no SD card slot, has "National Instruments" and "powered by LabVIEW" logo on it, or the v2 -> SD card slot, has "ni" logo on it)?

Thank you.

3 blink pattern means the device is in safe mode -> https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/hardware/hardware-basics/status-lights-ref.html.

Are you able to connect to it via USB and use the imaging tools to update the image?

If not, what message does the imaging tool give you?

When we connect it to the USB, it will let us try to update the image, but fails and says "unable to download image to target"

One thing we can try, is to re-apply the factory image and see if that gets it into a state where you can update the image.

Can you try to reset the device to factory image following the steps documented here: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA03q000000kOHkCAM&l=en-US ?

We tried all of those steps, had to use a usb/sd config to get it to reset.

When we tried reimaging it, it kept giving us this error.

It's blinking twice.

Can you boot it into safe mode by holding the reset button during power up? (https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/software/roborio-info/recovering-a-roborio-using-safe-mode.ht...)

if so, try to image it while in safe mode.

If imaging still fails, are you able to ping 172.22.11.2? (with the roboRIO connected via USB)

It would not work in safe mode either.

We cannot get it ping that number either.

It sends 4 packets and receives none.
