Roborio unable to image, continuous flashing status LED

Hello,

We turned on our 2019 robot for a demo to find out that there was no robot code. This led us to discover via the imaging tool that there was no firmware on the rio. Trying to format target or update firmware failed. We tried running the imager as an administrator, disconnected the ethernet so we were only connected via USB and that failed, so we tried booting the rio into safe mode, which gave us a continuously flashing LED. Rebotting without safe mode allows it to be found in the imaging tool, but still shows unknown for firmware, and FRC_roboRIO_2019_v14 for the current image.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Since you've already tried safe mode and running the tool in admin mode, we may need to go ahead and try to reset the device. I've sent you details in a private message.

Hello

We have the same issue. We bought a roboRio from a retired FRC team, and try to imagine it, But always failed. Here is the error message:

Does it work if you first "update" the firmware to a 5. version?

Hi Mshafer

Thanks for your reply. We only have firmware 6.0, Is there any way to download firmware 5.0?

Thanks

Jin

Official answer:
"Install an older version of the Game Tools"

I'm having trouble finding you a link... (you can read more on this thread: https://forums.ni.com/t5/Troubleshooting-Hardware/Roborio-Unrecoverable-Error/m-p/4118143#M27)

Does it cause by disk damage? Can I use the software to block the damaged partition?

Thanks again for all your help!

@linjin8848, I followed up with a colleague. They said if you're in the constant flash mode that we'll need to just try the re-flash anyways. I sent you instructions in a private message.

@mshafer, Can you send me those instructions as well?  We have two Rio 2.0s that are having the same issue.

Thanks.

For the roboRIO 2, this option has been replaced by formatting the SD card - https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/software/roborio-info/roborio2-imaging.html
