but you could not execute a vi without having LabVIEW installed...  I do not know of any version that could execute a vi from the run-time engine, only.  Especially not in windoze.

My background includes Mechanical Engineering (degree), Biophysics (Masters) and Physical Chemistry (PhD and post-doc) but I'm no expert in anything.

My relay is going to be about 1 meter (or more) away from the DAQ, plus it is really small. Its size is about half that of an eraser.

Try compiling an empty .exe and set it as "Open with .vi". It should work with runtime only. 😉
