I am trying to use labview to take voltage/current measurements using a multimeter and current source with AT-GPIB/TNT interface. The computer is running Windows 2000. I have NI 488.2 2.5 installed, but the GPIB does not show up in the control panel or in Measurement and Automation Exporer. In Device Manager, the AT-GPIB/TNT is shown under the National Instuments GPIB Interfaces icon, but with a yellow exclamation mark on top. When I view the properties for AT-GPIB/TNT, I get the error, "Windows could not load the installer for GPIB. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance." This occurs when I try to reinstall and uninstall the driver.
What can I do to make this work? Is my version of the NI 488.2 not compatible with my GPIB interface?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Allison,
Here is a link to a GPIB driver version compatibility table for Windows operating systems. This document lists the most current drivers for AT-GPIB/TNT and AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP) devices for Windows 2000, so I would recommend installing the specified version depending on which hardware you are using.
GPIB Driver Versions for Microsoft Windows and DOS
I would also verify that that particular driver version supports the LabVIEW edition you are working with, and the following Knowledge Base is a great resource for that.
LabVIEW and NI-488.2 Version Compatibility
Let me know how this works out!

Hi Swathi,
So I see that the version of labview I have (Labview 7.0) is not compatible with NI 488.2 2.5. But the main problem is that I cannot remove this version. When I try to install another version, I am prompted to remove the previous version. There is a problem with the previous version (v. 2.5) and it will not let me uninstall it.
Also, how do I know if my GPIB (AT-GPIB/TNT) is plug and play, or not? It does not say on the card. If it is not PnP, then I would need NI 488.2 V. 1.7, which happens to not be compatible with Labview 7.
Thanks,
Allison

Hi Allison,
Could you clarify what happens when you try to uninstall your current version of NI 488.2? Are you able to locate it in the Add/Remove Programs list? Be sure to also check the National Instruments Software window within Add/Remove Programs.
As for your other question, the Plug and Play AT-GPIB/TNT features a jumperless configuration while the legacy AT-GPIB/TNT uses DIP switches and jumpers to configure the interface.

I have the same problem. Windows 2000, Labview 8.6 and NI488.2 ver 1.7.
I'm trying to put a new version (the one I'm using is corrupted) but I cannot install the new version because it doesn't allow me to uninstall the older versions.
It looks for the CD of the old installation and I don't have it.

Hello Moltovio,
I was wondering if you could post a screen shot of the message you are getting when you try and uninstall NI 488.2 version 1.7. You should not need the disk in order to uninstall. Are you going to add/remove programs, then National Instruments Software then selecting your driver and saying to remove? Have a great day!
Best Regards,

It does asks for the Disk (or the Ni488.msi) and if you don't have it, it doesn't uninstall it.
I solved the problem asking for the legacy driver and I got it from NI today.
I uninstall the 1.7 and then install the 2.4 since the 2.7 kept saying that I needed to unstall Legacy drivers...
GPIB is working again..
