Using HP34401A in LabView yields error code -1073807343

Solved!

I have updated the VISA Version to 5.0.2.  However, it had the same problem.

When I tried to communicate to the HP34401A in the VISA Test Panel, the same error happened.

Please help me.

I can communicate with the HP34401A with another computer.  The new computer was installed a PCI GPIB card but not the USB-GPIB-HS.  Is this error is due to the  USB-GPIB-HS?

No. You able to communicate to the instrument per your original post. It seems to be a problem with the VISA installation.

I don't quite understand the VISA alias you are using and what is listed under the Miscellaneous VISA Resources? I don't that there should be a miscellaneous listing at all.

Also, the fact that you do not have a visaconf.ini file on your pc points to a software corruption. This is the file that is read to get a list of valid VISA resources. What is your OS? On Vista, the file is in Users>All Users>National Instruments. I think windows 7 uses the same location. For older OS's some installations of VISA used a folder called VXIpnp (I believe that's correct. It was VXI something). If you ever find it, try deleting it and going into MAX and do a refresh.

Its Possible!  ngarneski just found a simillar issue in this thread.  He was able to solve his problem by connecting the USB-GPIB to his agilent equipment through a GPIB cable.  - I suspect there is a mechanical interference differance between the USB adaptor and the GPIB connector on the Agilient equipment.

There is an intersting proviso in the Hardware Guide"at pg 1-3 pp2

"The GBIP-USB adaptor connects to MOST GBIP devices without requiring a GPIB cable.  " (emphasis added)

But in that case, no instrument was detected. In this case, MAX finds the instrument and communication is fine in MAX. It's only when VISA is used that there is a problem.

Ahhh- Missed this too-  The OP is using LabVIEW 8.20-  No LabVIEW 8.20 support in modern VISA versions

Good catch. Does not explain why VISA 4.3 does not work.

Perhaps VISA 4.6?

What is the meaning of OP?  Does it mean that LabVIEW 8.2.1 do not support the VISA 5.0.2?

OP is original poster - you and VISA 5.0 does not support 8.2. Sorry for not picking that up sooner.
