Mechanical Action Editor Improvements on the Block Diagram

Status: Completed

Available in LabVIEW 2018 and later.

I would like to be able to change the Mechanical Action setting of a Boolean control on the block diagram:

I would also like a visual indication as to the current mechanical action setting on a given control:

The difference is in the black little glyph on the icon, not in the label.

(you just proved that it is too small to notice.)

I've never claimed to be a graphic designer.  😉  I figured somebody else can make the call as to what the glyphs look like...I just grabbed some little glyphs directly from the Mechanical Action right-click menu.  Keep in mind, not everybody has the ability to draw a perfect feature request, like say, a smaller Boolean constant.  😉

I say icon view shows the mechanical action icon, those are certainly easy to decipher. Or not. Great CLAD question, pick one picture and ask what MA it represents.

Darren, i thought any LabVIEW programmer is by definition a graphic designer. 😄

I prefer to think of myself as a logic designer.  The graphic designers are the reason my logic looks so nice.  😉

Um, no thanks.  Not the biggest icon view fan over here.  I intentionally included a screenshot with terminal view.

Can you suggest something other than the parentheses? The way I read this, "Stop Button (switch)" is a Recommended terminal whose default value is "switch"

Well, if NI showed the default value automatically, the parentheses would be free. 😉

Couple times I needed to change the Mechanical Action while I was at BD. Nice to have it handy!

I like the original idea, but perhaps it should be expanded a bit.  The front panel screen menu should have an item called "block diagram menu" and then its submenu would have the items normally listed in the block diagram and vice versa for the menu shown in the block diagram.  This way you would have access to all of the features for each screen from either menu without NI having to decide which ones to make available in both screens.

Mechanical Action is important in FP & BD. Different settings causes different execution behaviors.
