Blue screen after installing labview 8

I recently installed Labview 8 Professional Dev. Suite on to a Win. XP SP2 system.  The image before installation was stable.  After the installation and reboot, the system blue screens (I have been unable to read the exact message on the blue screen) and reboots.  I was able to boot if I selected "using last know configuration" option in the Windows XP boot options, indicating that the problem is driver/registry related.  After I use the last know configuration, I get an error message "nidevmon.exe - Application Error.  The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).  Click on OK to terminate the application."

I tried to repair all of the installed NI products without any success.

Device manager shows all devices installed properly without any conflicts.

Please advise on how I can resolve this installation conflict.

Thanks.

Are you fairly sure that your XP install has the latest MS fixes, patches, etc??

Does your system meet the installation criteria for LV 8?

I installed all of the latest MS patches/fixes before installing LabVIEW.

My system exceeds the requirements for LabVIEW 8.

Now that I have returned to the "last working config" that rolled back the registry/driver updates from LabVIEW, LabVIEW works except that I still get the nidevmon.exe error every time I boot the system.

Hi jpap,

The NI Device Monitor (nidevmon.exe) is an application that installs with NI-DAQ and monitors your NI USB DAQ hardware to give you an easy plug-and-play experience when using differnet NI USB DAQ products. You might be able to avoid the issue by re-installing NI-DAQ, but it might be easier to just disable the NI Device Monitor. You can do so by rigt-clicking the icon in the System Tray and de-selecting the "Run at startup" option. You can then choose to close the Monitor too.

Please let us know it that doesn't solve your issue, thanks.

I know the same problem. I have apply all the NI patches and update. But I can't solve the problem.
I have try to repair installation items by items but the followings one give the blue screen when I reboot the machine:

PXI  -  NI-488  -  Daqmx  -  Visa Runtime 3.5  -  Visa Server 3.5

When I restart the machine, I receive an error message when nidevmon.exe try to initialize.

Is Anyone have an idea to solve this problem, these two problems ?

Note: I have install all the Wndows XP patches et fixes, and no others applications are installed, LabView has been installed on a clean system.

Hello,

Have you tried disabling the NI Device Monitor so that it does not run at startup?  Please right-click on the icon in your taskbar and then choose "Run at startup" so that it does not have a check mark next to it.  This will disable the NI Device Monitor from running at startup.

To isolate the blue screen issue, I would recommend uninstalling all of the drivers to see if you get the blue screen with only LabVIEW installed.  To do this, uninstall Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and all of the drivers will uninstall as well because they are dependent on MAX.  Then, check if the blue screen still occurs.

Post back the results,

Laura

Hi, I am experiencing the same problem.  When my system boots up I receive the "nidevmon.exe could not be initialized" error message.  When I try to manually start the program after startup, I still get the same message.  I am running Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] and have also updated my system with the latest patches.  I have the ni USB-6008 device.  My system is an IBM Thinkpad T40, 1.5Ghz Centrino, with 512MB ram, and 80GB hd.  I have installed labview 7.1 and then NI-DAQmx 8.0 that came with the card.

Furthermore, the hardware does not succesfully install on my system.  After I install the software, reboot and plug the usb device in, the hardware wizard pops up.  However, in the end, I get "
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)".  I suspect this has to do with the nidevmon.exe not initializing.  The ni hardware appears to be fine, I have successfully installed the devices in another system.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the ni-daqmx 8.0 software several times, and even downloaded version 7.5 from the web, however this did not solve the problem either.  I would appreciate any suggestions..

Thanks,
Arash

Hello Arash and Cl.Consulting,

Are either of you using McAfee virus scan?

Also, Arash, the fact that you have reinstalled the driver to no avail may be indicative of a larger software problem.  I recommend that you contact support.  You can do so at ni.com/contact

Thanks,

Laura

Laura,

I do not have McAfee running on my system.  I did however have Kaspersky antivirus running. I uninstalled Kaspersky and reinstalled daqmx and I still get the same error.  I tried running nidevmon.exe in windows safe mode and i get the same error.  The exact msg is as follows:

nidevmon.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I will contact technical support to see if they have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Arash

I had a similar issue when I installed Labview 8 over Labview 7.  My blue screen said "Bad Pool Caller".

This event occured on two computers, but I have not had time to debug why.  Just wanted to throw it out there.

Clean format and Labview 8 fresh install fixed all.

Joe
