Hi John,

To find out if there is a problem with the driver, you could try creating a simulated PCI-4462 in MAX.  To do this you can right-click on NI-DAQmx Devices in the MAX Configuration Tree and select Create New NI-DAQmx Device... >> Simulated NI-DAQmx Device and then select NI PCI-4462 from the Dynamic Signal Acquisition category in the Choose Device window.  Once you have created the simulated 4462, see if you are able to successfully run a self-test on the simulated device.

It will be difficult to troubleshoot the problem without another DAQ device and without another Vista 64 machine.  But we should be able to locate the culprit here with a little more troubleshooting. Smiley Happy

Hi Elizabeth L.,
I created a PCI-4462 which passed self-test and ran test panels with no problems.
Is there a Visual basic interface I could use to test the board/computer interface?
I could replace the hard drive and reinstall everything if you think that would help but the test I just ran seems to indicate the software is not the problem.

Thank you,
John

Hi John,

At this point it appears to be one of the two possible problems:

  1. There is a problem with this specific computer.
  2. There is a problem with this DAQ device that is only evident on 64 bit Vista.

You mentioned that you do not have Vista 64 on another computer to test this card.  Since this is not an option, the best choice you have at this point, in my opinion is to RMA the device.  Our RMA department will not typically test a returned device on a Vista 64 machine.  However, if you do RMA the board, and provide me with the RMA number, I will personally get the board from the RMA department and test it myself on a Vista 64 machine.  If the device is indeed damaged, then this will allow me to reproduce the problem and from there we can work with R&D to fix the problem.  If the device is not damaged and works fine when I test it on a Vista machine, then I will not be able to do anything here and will send it back to you.  So, you do run the risk of having to pay an RMA fee for a board that is not damaged.  However, since you cannot test the board on another computer, I do not see any better options.  What do you think of this idea?

To RMA the board, you can contact technical support here.  If you do RMA the board, please let me know what the RMA number is so that I can track down your device once it gets here.

Our national Field Rep. just installed a PCI board in our system that worked fine but the drivers still do not recognize our 4462.
We will be RMAing the board  today.

Thanks for the update.  Jennifer and I will both be looking out for the board.  We will make sure it gets tested on a Vista 64 machine, and we'll let you know the results.

Hello John,

Yes we have received the board.  It is currently undergoing standard testing and once that is complete Elizabeth L will be picking up the board to install in a Vista 64 machine.

She will contact you at that time.  In the mean time if you would like to speak with someone regarding this board you can call in to the support lines using the RMA number previously provided.

Regards,

Jennifer O.

Hi John,

I just picked up the board from our RMA department.  Channels 2 and 3 failed the frequency input test when tested in the RMA department.  This problem has been fixed.  I will now test this board in a 64 bit Vista machine as soon as possible.  You should be hearing back from me with the results early next week.

Have a great weekend!
