I am using labwindows/cvi 7.1.1, my question is how to write software to communicate via USB.

Hi Daniel,

You have several options for communicating via USB in CVI.  If you are using one of our Data Acquisition Boards, you can use our DAQmx driver.  If you are trying to communicate with something other than NI hardware, you can use our VISA driver.  Here is a knowledge base which explains more detail.

Also, there are examples which install with CVI if you choose to use DAQmx or VISA, so that would be a good starting point.  You could also search ni.com/support for more resources which may help you along the way.

Hello Matt,

Thanks for your prompt reply for the USB and VISA, I have got the 'USB Instrument Control Tutorial'. I wonder if you have any sample code available.

FYI: I am using CVI 7.1.1.

Hi Daniel,

Is the device you have a USB INSTR Class (USBTMC) device, or are you looking to communicate with it using USB RAW? Unfortunately we do not have sample code for Labwindows/CVI available for this, but we will be glad to help you out on this forum.

Here is a link to a discussion forum posting that discusses this:
Interfacing USB in Labwindows

You can also search the discussion forums for any specific assistance you may need. Hope this helped!

Hello Rasheel,

I have used NI USB Instrument Control Tutorial and made some progress.

The project is for Kingfisher International P/L, it is your long time customer from CVI DOS ero.

Could you please contact me on danielxw@yahoo.com.au, so I can send you the screen print and expect you can help me to go through this.

Also, NI Australia has called me yesterday, but the call was missed.

Regards,

Daniel

Can you keep the discussion in the forum and not outside on private e-amail. After all, that is what the forum is for, for all to learn from other's experiences.

Hello Jattie,

Totally agree and appreciate your saying of After all, that is what the forum is for, for all to learn from other's experiences.

The reason for suggestion the email was for the attachments so that the communication can be enhanced.

I have found the attachment feature near the bottom of the page, which I have missed before.

So no private email is required.

Regards,

Daniel
