Lookout 6.1 Modbus.cbx object- is 3/3/07 latest version?

Solved!

+1 on advanced modbus settings....

I went into modbus advanced config and changed the number of registers to poll, and now Lookout refuses to communicate over my PCI serial card even when I load the unedited file. Even restarted the PC. Now the only com port on this PC that works with Lookout is com1. On the other com ports, I only get 3 polls and then it stops altogether.

I have an on delay fired by modbus update member and it is not being triggered.

I tested the com ports after that with other serial devices and they are working fine. Went back to Lookout and no luck on either PCI serial ports.

For the record, these serial ports have worked with Lookout for years until today.

OK, I just shut the PC and SCADAPack down cold, restarted and the PCI ports still don't work in Lookout..... Not good!

Did more research....

What Lookout did to my PCI serial ports was to disable modbus altogether. Telepace doesn't work now either on the PCI ports.

On the other hand, my wireless modem config software that doesn't speak modbus works on all com ports.

I used to use these serial ports to simulate SCADA systems during development, obviously speaking modbus.

I uninstalled the Oxford PCI UART drivers and reinstalled them. Modbus is still not working on these ports.

John, I have noticed the bug you mentioned about the baud rate. We will look into it. This bug seems to happen only with 115200 baud rate... It jumps to 9600 automatically after you revise anything.

Roger, Could you try to replug the PCI card? Power off the computer, unplug the card, and plug it again. I don't think Lookout can damage or block the pci card's function. If you try to read something through the port, is anything logged to diagnostic file? Does lookout has any error or alarm? If you create a new process, with a new modbus object, does it work? You can create a Counter object connected to the update datamember. With the counter, you can check if it is still updating. Also create expression of update datamember to check if update is always ON or not.

Ryan

The card is not damaged. Some setting must have changed, it is a 232/422/485 card. I will physically remove and reinstall.

Lookout was sending out polls after I cold started but they were not firing the rx/rx leds on the remote. Before that Lookout only sent out 3 polls and stopped.

I was hoping this was a clue on our modbus woes, but I could have done something wrong on my end...

I'll let you know.

Ryan and all

I found out what happened on that old serial card... It had rts/cts enabled which required a jumper between pins 7 and 8 on the card end in order to speak to SCADAPacks, or Modicons. When I went to try the ports I just moved the straight through cable over and it wouldn't work (obviously)

I had hoped it was a clue and it was more of a doofus move!

Mods: These posts I made confuse the original intent of this thread. It would be a service to the OP if you delete my posts, please.

Very Sorry

Roger, It doesn't matter. We will leave your posts since it is also a Modbus problem, no matter it is software or hardware, and you solved it. John, We are working on the bug that I discussed with Roger in another thread. Hope that problem is same as the one you are facing. Both that problem and the one you mentioned about the baudrate will be fixed.

Hi Ryan: It looks like Roger still has the problem with the revised Modbus.cbx object, where only disconnecting the serial link restores normal operation. This is what I was experiencing. If you think it would be beneficial, you could send me a copy of your updated Modbus object and I could try it on my client's new Lookout 6.1 system, with a communications log. They are anxious to get their system up and running. THANKS! -John Nourse
