Spyder GigE camera support

Eric,

Thanks for your help.  I have contacted Dalsa, and they have sent me a set of Labview VIs that will work with the Spyder Gige camera.  However, they were written in Labview 8.0, and I have Labview 7.1.  If I email them to you, can you convert them to 7.1?

Hi Gretchen,

The IMAQdx driver consists of more than just Labview VI's, so if you are unable to see the camera inside of MAX then it will not work in LabVIEW. The one exception would be if the VIs that Dalsa sent you use their own API and drivers rather than IMAQdx.

If you install Vision Acquisition 8.2.1 (including IMAQdx 3.0) it will install examples for your version of LabVIEW installed that should work with your Spyder camera. Again, I would suggest going into MAX first to see if the camera shows up there before trying to run any LabVIEW examples. From your previous postings it is not clear whether you have tried this step or not.

Hope this helps,
Eric G

Oh, yes, I have tried IMAX over & over.  first, I had the Dalsa driver installed, now I have the NI driver for the Intel PRO/1000 installed.  I still cannot see the camera.  I asked dalsa about the firmware, but here's a copy of their reply:

Hi Gretchen,

I have attached some sample code which will help you use the camera in Labview. The camera will not be automatically recognized by their software.

Thanks,

I tried opening the sample code, but it was written with LV 8.0.  I emailed back, to see if Dalsa could convert it for me, but here was their reply:

Hi Gretchen,

Unfortunately I do not have access to Labview and will not be able to do this. Perhaps you could contact NI?

Thanks,

I have installed Vision Acq 8.2.1, and tried to look at the examples, but again, they are written in LV 8.x.  Can't look at them.

Oops, a correction!  I can open the example IMAQdx VIs - it's the LV examples that came with the Dalsa QuickCam software that I cannot open.  I just opened & ran Snap, but it says 'Camera Not Found'.  (not a big surprise, since I can't see the camera in IMAX)

I have downloaded & installed a trial version of V Acq 8.2.1.  Purchased version is on the way.  Perhaps I'll have better luck with that version???

Gretchen,

According to the page http://vfm.dalsa.com/products/features/spyder3gige.asp , it states "Gigabit Ethernet interface, GigE Vision compliant models (SG-11) available."

It appears that that not all Spyder3's shipped by Dalsa have firmware that supports the GigE Vision spec. If the particular model/version you have does not support the GigE Vision spec then it will only work with with Dalsa's SDK. Again, I would suggest contacting Dalsa again and asking if they have a firmware update to apply to support the GigE Vision standard for your particular camera. Do you know the model number of thr Spyder3 you have?

The sticker on the back says 'SG-10-01K80-11E', and was purchased recently (Fall '06).  I appreciate your help & feedback.  I will send another email to Andy at Dalsa.

Email conversation with Dalsa follows:

Subject: Camera Vision compliant?

To Dalsa: The sticker on the back of my Spyder says 'SG-10-01K80-11E'. The number immediately underneath that is: 16000101 (The Revision #?)

Is my camera 'GigE Vision compliant'?

Regards, Gretchen Zimmer

Hi Gretchen,

No, your camera is not GigE Vision compliant.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there anyway I can make it compliant? Possibly a firmware upgrade?

Gretchen

Unfortunately not.

so that's that.  .......  Gretchen

Hi Gretchen,

I'm going through exactly the same problem. My Spyder 2 is an SG-10-01K40-10E. Just wondering if you somehow found a solution and can see your camera in MAX, or did you give up.

Cheers,

Kaveh.

Status as of March '07 [I've been struggling through various solutions ever since my original post]:

I CAN NOW SEE THE SPYDER GigE Camera via IMAX!!!

Dalsa had to send me a firmware upgrade, which I applied, and voila! I could see the camera!  [Must use NI driver.]

I can do basic acquisition of images with Labview.  However, Dalsa states that I have to use their New GUI interface called Coyote to set the camera parameters, and I'm finding Coyote not sufficient for our application.
