Why does Imaq for ieee1394 not recognizer my sony ieee1394 dv camera?

I am trying to use imaq for ieee1394 in combination with a sony dv camera with a ieee1394 output.

Why does imaq not recognize this camera?

Thanks for any tips

The Sony DV camera outputs compressed video, which is compatible with video editing software, but not with IMAQ.

To use IMAQ for IEEE1394, you need a camera that outputs uncompressed video.

I have to use this camera since I just bought it. Are there ways around this problem so I can still use labview/imaq?

Is NI intending to support DV in future?

Thanks for any tips

You could get an IMAQ card and use the analog signal from the camera but that can be an expensive option.

You could do it very easily if you used a Mac instead of PC, but the current version of the IMAQ Vision toolkit is not available on the Mac.

It might be possible to acquire using different drivers, such as Video For Windows. You would have to locate some drivers, though.

The whole idea of a firewire camera is to get rid of the analog signal and the framgrabber so I do not want to take that route.

Why would it work on a Mac and not on a PC? and which ni software is available for the Mac?

Are you suggesting to get a driver to get the DV format working under windows on a PC in combination with imaq?
How would this work?

Thanks for any tips

Macs have built in firewire support, and somebody has written a LabVIEW driver that will bring in video as Quicktime. It works with the Sony camera. The most recent version of the IMAQ vision toolkit available on the Mac is 4.1, versus 6.1 on the PC.

Getting it to work on the PC would require a VFW driver. One possibility can be found at http://www.xon.de/eng/products/multimedia.php.htm, but I have never used their drivers. Buying their drivers might be a cost effective solution to your problem.

I tried to get the Xon software to work without succes.
It seems my camera(sony DV with firewire interface)uses a WDM driver and the Xon software works only for VFW drivers.

Any ideas?
