AC servo motor

Is it necessary to use UMI 7764, if i want to implement fuzzy logic or other advance controller.

My ac servo motor has drives. i intend to use FP 2000, FP AIO 610 and FP QUAD 510 (Do not intend to use PCI 7344 for motion control)

The UMI-7764 is a breakout box with signal conditioning to interface a NI motion control plugin board like the PCI-7344 to a 3rd party drive. You won't need this device for your hardware setup.

Please note that you shouldn't expect higher control loop rates than 100 to 200 Hz with your hardware. This is primarily caused by the FP-2000 which is designed for rather slow I/Os which are typically used in industrial automation applications.

If you are looking for a high performance solution in an even more compact form factor please have a look at our compact RIO products which can run control loops with up to 200 kHz. You also might be interested in the NI SoftMotion development module for LabVIEW that provides a lot of features that you will need for your application (trajectory generation, spline engine,...).

Please explain me what is the meaning of control loops rates. Does it mean using FP 2000, the motion of my motor will be slower as compared using compact RIO.

Depending on the dynamics of your motion control application the control algorithm needs to run faster or slower. Typical motion control applications run with a control loop rate between 1 kHz up to 20 kHz. The majority of all motion control applications can be run in this range of rates. A FieldPoint system typically can't reach these rates.

The faster the control loop runs the faster your system can react on load changes and so on. On the other hand fast control loop rates don't mean necessarily that your system is stable. E. g. if you have a slowly turning motor with low resolution position feedback you should choose also a slow control loop rate for stable system behavior but if your control loop runs too slowly compared to your system's dynamics the motor will probably become unstable, too.

I hope that helps,
