Dear sir ,
I have a stepper motor which is a 4phase unipolar with a step angle of 1.8 degrees. How can I measure the speed, angle in (absolute form)
and direction of the stepper motor. Details given, only four inputs with a sequence of 1000,0100,0010,0001,1000 so it continues to run the stepper , with these inputs , how can i measure the above mentioned. We are going to use an FPGA for the logic circuits. So please give me some idea in acheiving those parameters.
Thank you sir,
regards,
vinoth

Dear sir,
First of all, I would like to thank to NI for giving this oppurtunity regarding Technical discussions. More over I would like to thank to You sir. Actually we are not going to load the stepper motor, the inputs to the driver is given by some one, and those inputs will be taken through OPto isolator(till now we didn't any opto coupler), and those i/ps consider A,B,C,D will have the sequence of 1000,0100,0010,0001,1000 and these sequence will continue for rotating the stepper motor. So we are using an FPGA which will read these inputs and it is going to perform the simulation operation, it means it is going to measure the speed, angle(absolute), direction(FWD,REV), Currently we are planning to load with RLinstead of stepper, so there is no chance of using encoder here, so give me some ideas in implementing these parameters with FPGA and ideas about those parameters,so that I can proceed further. Also through FPGA it will be given to cPCI back plane ,
spec:
stepper: 4phase stepper 28V
step angle: 1.8 degrees.
Drive system : Unipolar(consider wave drive.)
Stepping method: (Both Half & Full stepping)
Once again I would like to thanks to you sir.
Thanks,

Dear sir,
I've been asking the idea of determining the step angle, speed and direction of the stepper motor, using FPGA, till now I didn't get any ereply.
please give me some ideas about this, also our project is " stepper motor simulator" is there any module which will simulate all these parameters of stepper motor. please reply if NI has any equipment which will silumate the parameters of stepper motor.
Thanks

Vinoth,
NI would not have a specific simulator for a stepper motor. Think of NI's products as tools that customers can use to build a setup of hardware and software to meet their specific requirements. NI has motion control products that allow to control and monitor the position of stepper motors and servo motors. There are also Data Acquisition products that allow to read an write digital, analog, and counter/timer signals. Combining these products with software such as LabVIEW, specifically the DAQ products, would allow you to create a "stepper simulator".
I have a few more questions for you. Do you need equipment to actually drive the servo motor and control its position, or are do you need equipment that will actual output signals that mimick the outputs of a servor motor? Please let me know as this will determine the NI products that would fit your needs best.
