Did you mean:

delete component without deleting wires

Solved!
Go to solution

In the schematic editor, how do I select a component and delete it without deleting all of the wires attached to it?  I don't want to use the "replace component" menu option because I want to do something else.

I'm sure I'm just missing something simple...

Thanks,

Dave

Place a junction node on the wire near the pins you want the wires to to stay.  Delete the component, the junction points will hold the wires in place to make the needed changes you want after that.

Good tip, thanks.  I was hoping for a modifier, like ctrl or shift with the delete key.

Hi all,

This might help too:

  1. Select the component you want to delete
  2. Hold down the spacebar
  3. Drag the component to a blank part of your schematic. Note how your component was moved while preserving all connecting wires.
  4. Delete the component

That's it!  I knew there had to be something like that.  Thanks!

There's even a much easier way:

under  'Options' > 'Global preferences', select the 'General' TAB, and in the 'wiring' part:

unselect the 'delete associated wires when deleting component' box
