NI PXI-4072 DMM use for Impedance and peak to peak voltage mesurement

Hello,

1. We want to use NI PXI-4072 DMM for impedance measurement (values will be around 75 ohm to 12 KOhm) at 100 KHz for ARINC transmit and receive circuit for an aerospace application. Please let us know whether it is possible to achieve it using PXI-4072 DMM.

2. We also want to use PXI-4072 DMM for measuring peak-to-peak value (around 20V +/- 2V) of waveform (bipolar return to zero trapezoidal shape) at 100 KHz from ARINC transmission. Sampling rate required will be around 1 MSamples/Second. Please let us know whether it is possible to achieve it using PXI-4072 DMM.

Thank you,
Talwar

Hello Talwar,

Thanks for contacting National Instruments.

The PXI 4072 was designed for performing measurements on discrete components.  It uses a multi-tone AC signal to perform inductance and capacitance measurements.  The knowledgebase Can the NI PXI-4072 FlexDMM & LCR Meter Perform Impedance Measurements? outlines the method in detail.

The PXI 4072 is capable of measuring waveforms at a sample rate of up to 1.8 MegaSamples/second.  Pages 8 and 9 of the specifications sheet shows the available sample rates as well as the bits of resolution compared to the sampling rate.  There are several shipping examples in LabVIEW that are great starting points for performing waveform acquisition with the PXI 4072.  These can be found in Help -> Find Examples and then by browsing to the path Hardware Input and Output -> Modular Instruments -> NI-DMM -> Acquiring Waveforms.  If you wish to acquire the waveform continuously, the knowledgebase Can I Perform Continuous Acquisitions with my DMM in Waveform Mode? provides useful getting started information.

Please post back if you have any questions.  Have a great day!
