9144 chassis without controller

Hello, Respected NI engineers!
I had a different interpretation of following articles.

How to use the NI 9144 EtherCAT slave chassis with 3rd party EtherCAT master tools?

and

Making NI 9144 chassis expansion PC based

As I have understood, in the first one is said that 9144 chassis can be used without the controler (cRio/PXI).
But at a forum (2 reference) it is specified that the controler is necessary.
Therefore a question: whether probably to use 9144 chassis (with support EtherCAT) without the controler?

Hi kolan,

The 9144 requires an EtherCAT Master.  As the first article explains, this doesn't need to be a CompactRIO or PXI chassis, just a system that can act as a EtherCAT Master.  The forum also mentions the need for an EtherCAT Master.

So, does that mean that we can use PC-based Ethercad Master cards such as are presented under the reference?

Thanks for Your reply, Jareds!

Hi Kolan,

Exactly.  A PC-based EtherCAT Master card should work just fine as long as it follows the EtherCAT standard.
