MAX won't let me set the duplex mode of my RT target.

Hello,

I want to use MAX to select half duplex mode on my PXI RT target.

How does one select half duplex, if the selection is disabled on MAX.

Hi Kevin,

The typical procedure for selecting half duplex is to go to Rmote Systems in MAX, select the PXI target, choose Advanced Ethernet Settings, and changing the Media Mode pull-down to the desired mode.  If half-duplex is not shown as an option here (or is greyed out), this implies that the particular ethernet chipset and driver do not support that mode.

If you could provide the following information, it will help in making a diagnosis:

1.  Model of RT PXI controller (8176, 8145, etc)

2.  Version of LV RT installed, as well as version of MAX being used

3.  Version of the Intel Ethernet driver installed on the PXI system (Remote Systems>>(your target)>>Software)

Howdy Matt,

The Media Mode pull-down is greyed out so I cant select the desired half-duplex mode.

1. Model of RT PXI controller is PXI-8196.

2. Version of LV RT 8.0.1 installed.

3. Version 4.0.2 of MAX is being used.

4. The Following Ethernet drivers have been installed on the PXI system:
Broadcom 57xx GigaBit Ehternet Driver 1.0.1.3.0
Intel 8255x 10/100MBs Ehternet Driver 1.2.2.3.0
Intel 8254x Ehternet Driver 1.2.0.3.0

Hi Kevin,

I spoke with R & D earlier today, and the chipset on the 8196 is set to autonegotiate all connections, so you would not have to explicitly force the controller to communicate over half-duplex mode.

I'm curious to know, what is requiring you to use half duplex for this system?

So, does that mean that half duplex is used on the PXI-8196RT?

The reason I wanted half duplex is because it appears that FTP is faster this way.

Why is ftp from LabView on Windows to LabView on a PXI RealTime system so slow?

It appears that using 10MBS is quicker than 100MBS, why?

Either its only a few K per second in transfers.

Storing appears to be much quicker that retrieving, why?

Hello Kevin,

For programmatic FTP transfers, I recommend giving this KnowledgeBase article a look, as it explains some of the reasons why you may be seeing slower than expected FTP transfers.  You may also wish to compare the speed of your FTP transfers with your computer's firewall disabled - you will likely see a sizeable increase in performance in that case.  Your controller will attempt to match the host machine's communication settings when in Autonegotiate mode - the issue where speeds were heavily affected by duplex settings has been resolved in later revisions of our controllers and operating system software.
