Signal Express 2009 causing NIMAX to generate an Error Exception message

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a system that gives an error message when I try to open an instrument in NIMAX. The popup error message says "unexpected Error", with a code of "MAXKnownException. This system is running Windows XP and we had Signal Express 3.0 with NIMAX 4.3 running perfectly. We upgraded to Signal Express 2009 with NIMAX 4.6 and this problem occurs.

The error log message that is gereated is

"The niVISAui.mxx plug-in caused an exception in the CmxAggregateItemUI::GetToolbar function in the NIMax process."

Thanks

I think I have it fixed. There was a new version of NIVisaUI.mxx which I downloaded and everything functions.

Hello KLP,

Thank you for your post.

Please reference the following KnowledgeBase article for information regarding the posted error.

What is an "Unexpected Error" from Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)?

As the article suggests, this is likely a benign error. I have contacted R&D and will post if this issue should be of concern

Some more info on the failure for future reference, the problem was not benign ... in the pop up I chose to ignore the error message but any time I tried to open an instrument in NIMAX I would get the same pop up and NIMAX was virtually unuseable.

The good news is that we were able to get this to work. The Signal Express 2009 package that we received came with the associated device drivers CD. Unfortunately the NIMAX version on the CD was 4.5 and it turns out that Signal Express 2009 must have version 4.6 to work. We took NIMAX version 4.6 off of the NI web site and that cured the problem.

KLP,

In order to properly document this issue, I'd like to get some additional information from you.

In your first post, you mentioned that problem started to happen after you upgraded to SignalExpress 2009 and MAX 4.6. In the previous post, however, you said that you somehow had MAX 4.5 and SignalExpress 2009 from the CD and needed to get a newer version of MAX to fix the problem.

This should not have happened. SignalExpress 2009 and MAX 4.6 were bundled together on the August Device Driver DVD. Because there is a dependency of SignalExpress on MAX, you would have to upgrade MAX if you were to install SignalExpress. Could you please clarify or tell me which CD/DVD you installed SignalExpress from?

Also, at one point you mentioned that the problem was resolved after upgrading VISA. Do you remember if the new error and the old one are the same? And what versions of VISA did you upgrade to and from?

Hello,

I am getting the same message stating "Measurement and Automation Explorer encountered an unexpected error since it was last run. For more information, visit ni.com/info and enter the Info Code MAXKnownException." I did so and matched all the known exceptions but could not really find anything useful.

I am using MAX version 4.7 have LabVIEW 2010 and the latest verion of NI-DAQ installed as well. I am using this on Windows XP OS.

I have also attached the error message screenshot in this post (Error1.jpg).

In addition I have also added the error messages which I received on continuing to open the MAX nonetheless and then opening Devices and Interfaces and the error on trying to work through using LabVIEW Signal Express for DAQ. (Error.jpg)

Could you please let me know what this might be about and how can I resolve the errors?

Thanks,

Rohit Parakh

Hi Rohit,

The MAXTermintaedServiceError sometimes occurs because the NI Configuration Manager service hasn't started or has crashed. Please refer to this KnowledgeBase article on this error and how to fix it:

What Do I Do with MAX Database Error with Info Code "MAXTerminatedServiceError"?

Also please check to see if the MAX database has a corruption issue. Refer to this KnowledgeBase article:

What is the Process For Removing MAX Database Corruption?

If the problem persists please try repairing MAX, DAQmx and LabVIEW.

How Do I Uninstall or Repair National Instruments Software?

Finally if these solutions don't work, please post the error logs listed in "Error1.JPG" that you had posted, so we can investigate further for you. Please also include which version of DAQmx that is installed.

Thanks,

Steven K
