.dat data question.

I created 2 .dat files with the LabView example VIs Write Datalog File Example.vi and Simple Temp Datalogger.vi in the hopes of learning how to handle .dat data with DIAdem. When I go to load the .dat files into the DIAdem data portal I get the attached error message (attachment 1&2). I did open the 2 .dat files with NotePad to see what they looked like (attachment 3). What could be causing this?

Hello zilla,

The DAT files created by these VIs are not written in DIAdem format. DAT is not a standardized file extension, that means it can contain pretty much anything.
DIAdem DAT datasets always need at least 2 files. One is called DAT and is the headerfile (information about the data in ASCII notation), the other file may have different extensions (r64, asc, w8,...) It contains the rawdata.
If you want to create DIAdem files with LabVIEW I recommend to use the LabVIEW DIAdem Connectivity VIs. They can be downloaded for free:
http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/webcategories/85256410006C055586256BBB002C104B?opendocument&node=132070_US
The installer comes with a lot of examples to demonstarate the functionality.

If you are using DIAdem 9 and LabVIEW 7.1 I would r
ecommend to use the new DIAdem file format (TDM) with the respecting datastorage express VIs.

Ok thanks, I understand now.

I went got the correct Connectivity kit and have been working with it I can see a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel!

What I don't see is how to create my own DIAdem layout (.LPD) to which I would be able to save my data to. My thinking is to create a report and save it as a .LPD but that didn't work.

Please guide me a little more,

thanks

If you are using DIAdem 9.0, you cannot save a report layout as a .LPD. However, you can save a report as a .TDR and it should work fine. Just be sure to select all files instead of just *.LPD from the browse button. If this does not solve your problem, what are you noticing when it "doesn't work". Is there an error message, or are you just noticing your data is not showing up?
