Script Error when click on Find Example in LabVIEW Help

I was able to report this problem to National Instruments using the "Report a bug" link below. Hopefully they come back with a "bug fix".

I already placed an entry in the Monthly bug thread and pinged some channels.

Since it seems to be broken on many OS and LabVIEW versions, it seems likely caused by e.g. a windows security patch or similar.

That would make sense, since the PCs where I don't see the problem are "embedded" and all updates are frozen.

It is not public.  About all you can do is watch for it in the LabVIEW release notes.

As suggested by @altenbach, windows update KB4462919 seems to be the problem:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4462919/windows-10-update-kb4462919

After removing this update from my Windows 10 computer LabVIEW help finally works.

I actually noticed this a while ago, but wanted to investigate first. Thought it was something local since nobody else seems to mentioned it. 😮

  • It does not seem to matter what the default browser is (tried Chrome, Edge,  IE).
  • Running as administrator does not help.
  • Disabling AV does not help.
  • Yes, thing work if I open the chm file from within windows explorer.
  • It also works if I open help chm file using "control online help" (e.g. using <helpdir>\_LaunchHelp.vi)
  • Either LabVIEW calls the help incorrectly or there is a permission issue somewhere.

I never noticed it until a few days ago because I only rarely click on anything in the help file.  I mostly use it to remind myself of all the nuances related to something already on the block diagram.

Many times, the forum topic where the CAR was first reported as being created will be updated when the bug is actually resolved.  So don't be surprised if, a few years from now, you get an email saying there was a reply to this topic.  😄
