This is what happens when you hijack an old thread and say you have the same problem. The thread topic refers to 488.2 and now you say you are only using serial. A lot of time wasted. For serial, you only need NI-VISA and you only need NI-Serial if you are using an NI USB-RS232 converter. The previous answer is not correct if you aren't. Please provide full information.

Ok since you were on this thread I assumed your problem was similar to the one on this thread. I was wrong so lets start over again.

What type of Hardware interface are you using? Such as PXI, USB,

What type of specific Hardware are you using? Such as USB-RS232-4

What OS are you using? Such as Windows XP

What type of Software are you using and what version? Such as LabVIEW, Python

What is it that you are trying to do?

ok , I m using windows7 x64

the type of convert is  U232-P9

labview 2013

I try to create a communication between the labview interface and a system that is send the data with the modbus RTU but I don't have port rs232 in my pc so I use the convert usb/rs232

For the last time, you do not need NI-Serial. You need the Windows driver that came with the device. You would then need to install NI-VISA. The latest is at http://www.ni.com/download/ni-visa-14.0.1/5023/en/

If you have installed the Windows driver, your port will be shown in Windows Device Manager. Once you install VISA, your port should appear in Measurement and Automation Explorer.

And for Modbus, there is a LabVIEW api at https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-30140

You can also use DSC toolkit for Modbus.
